We open Vines 9th Festival with integral voices of joy and in resistance. In partnership with Chaythoose we will join hands under the trees with the ocean breeze to be soothed by the stories of our many ancestors. The songs and dances of resistance set the tone for a festival filled with reprieve and revival.

7:15 PM – Miguel Maravilla & Jen Yakamovich (Ang Lupa Ang Dahilan)
A music performance involving synths, guitar, percussion, and vocals, using original and historical poetry and spoken word, as well as revolutionary Filipino folk songs, to re-tell stories of resistance from the oppressed peoples of the Philippines, and its correlation to land defense on Turtle Island and around the world.

7:35 PM – Gwa and Miranda

8:00 PM – Raven Grenier (Spanochnonga)
This is an original dance piece to original spoken word poetry track.

8:15 PM – La Caramelita (Reverdecer)
"Reverdecer" (literally "green-up") is a powerful ode to the inspiration drawn from Mother Earth to regrow and reinvent oneself as an artist and as a compassionate human on this planet. Nature teaches us to grow or die. If we are not growing, evolving, changing, then we are decaying. Stagnation is a myth..."Reverdecer" is a ritual using Indian classical dance and flamenco inspired movement to celebrate female embodiment and growth.

8:35 PM – Anya Saugstad (Ocean Roaring)
‘Ocean Roaring’ is a site specific live dance and violin performance that follows the stories of six women on the shore of the ocean at dusk. This no tech, environmentally conscious work, focuses on tireless and urgent movement as a means to describe distance and longing between people and the land, and directs attention to the ocean as a scarce and vital resource.

9:00 – anahita (poetry set)
a spoken word set exploring themes of sexual violence, mental health/illness, MAD pride, diasporic musings, gender fuckery and unabashed joyyyyyyyyy despite / through it all!
