VINES ART SOCIETY IS HIRING A MANAGING DIRECTOR

Location: Virtual and from Vines Den (825 E Hastings St, Vancouver)

Hours: 30 hours/week

Remuneration: $30/hr

Start Date: October 1, 2024 full-time + 50 hours of training through August and September 2024 to be arranged

Contract: 12 months with the possibility of renewal for another year (October 1, 2024 - September 30, 2025)

Deadline: July 26, 2024

Mission: Vines is an arts organization that is responsive to and nurturing of artists that are working toward land, water, and relational justice. We support marginalized artists in developing their work, host an annual festival and year-round events. Vines brings imagination into everyday spaces by presenting work for free in populated public spaces in Vancouver and throughout the province. We advocate for artists' well-being and center anti-oppressive community care without bureaucracy.

JOB DESCRIPTION
Vines Art Society is seeking a Managing Director to oversee the general operations of the organization. Reporting and working closely with the Artistic Director and rest of Vines staff, the Managing Director will oversee financial and administrative tasks, and provide support for productions and grants.

We seek a dedicated individual who values continual learning and growth, enjoys engaging in deep conversations that lead to positive change, and collaborates well with others, appreciating subtleties and embracing empathy.

Our full team meets weekly, outside of meeting much of the work is done from home independently.

RESPONSIBILITIES
General Responsibilities:

  • Manage contracts for artists and event contract workers
  • Manage incoming invoices and ensure artists, staff and contract workers are paid
  • Prepare outgoing invoices and make sure partners and clients pay us
  • Help Artistic Director in maintaining operational budget, with support from bookkeeper
  • Work with bookkeeper on monthly accounting and year-end financials
  • Help Artistic Director with grant calendar, including ensuring deadlines are met and applications are submitted
  • Making sure insurance is updated as well as ensuring we have insurance for any events as needed
  • Applying for event permits and licenses as needed
  • Communicate with city and parks board
  • Manage list of volunteers
  • Keep organizational systems accurate and up to date (Asana, Google Calendar, Airtable, Dropbox)
  • Record weekly staff meeting minutes

  • Able to work independently when required and open to collaborative environments with space for healthy and rich conversations
  • Tech-savvy with advanced knowledge of Google and Microsoft Office applications
  • Strong time management skills
  • Ability to work flexible hours
  • Experience in project management, ideally in not-for-profit organizations
  • Experience with budgets, contracts, and managing teams
