Qianrong Wu

My name is Soya, and I’m an BIPOC ecoqueer artist working primarily in media art and interactive performance. My background in sociological research, sex education, kink, Shibari, contact improvisation dance, and farming grounds my work in both critical inquiry and tactile, intuitive experience. Rooted in Chinese ancestral animist knowledge and Coast Salish Indigenous teaching, I explore the mycelium-like interconnection between human bodies, natural materials, and collective liberation, often blending rope, fabric, plants, and somatic movement.

I’ve presented work at The Dance Centre, Vines Art Festival, James Black Gallery, and The Annex in Vancouver, as well as OK Center and OSF in Guangzhou, China. I regularly teach rope and movement workshops in both cities, and collaborate with local artists and organizers. I was an artist-in-residence at James Black Gallery (2023) and EDAM contact improvisation scholarship recipient (2025). I also co-organize Chinese Queer Feminist Film Screenings and BIPOC rope jams in Vancouver.
